Do I need to complete everything in the application packet?

We ask that you do complete the entire application. 

How old must my child be to attend the early childhood program or kindergarten?

Children applying for Preschool must be 3 years old by October 15 of the enrollment year. Children attending Prekindergarten need to be 4 years old by October 15. If enrolling into our Kindergarten program, children need to be 5 years old on or before October 15.


I have more than one child at St. Joseph the Worker School. Do I pay a registration fee for each one?

Yes.  The application fee is $50 per child with a maximum of $100 per family. The annual family registration fee is non-refundable. 

Is there a discount for multiple students?

Yes. Siblings in Kindergarten through 8th grade, receive a tuition discount. Please see the Tuition Information page for details.

Is tuition tax-deductible?

No.  The IRS does not recognize tuition as tax-deductible.  Donations to St. Joseph the Worker School, however, where no services or products are received in exchange for the donation, are tax-deductible.

Is tuition due all at once?

Families can either pay their tuition in one payment directly to St. Joseph the Worker School, or they can pay in 10 monthly payments using the FACTS Tuition Management program.  All families must enroll in the FACTS program.

Is there a volunteer requirement for all families?

K-8 families are asked to serve 20 hours per family per year or pay a $400 family service fee.  There are many ways you can serve the school and we do appreciate your help!

Does your school have a scholarship program?

Yes.  Enrolled families need to apply via the FACTS Grant & Sid scholarship application site.  For questions about our scholarship program and instructions on how to apply, please contact the school office.

Our School Day

What is the length of the school day?

The school day for K-8 is 8:15 AM-2:50 PM.  Early Childhood hours are 9:00-11:30 AM and 12:30-3:00 PM with the optional Extended Care Program. 

What times are pick-up and drop-off?

K-8 students can be dropped off beginning at 8:00 AM and pick up is at 2:50 PM.  Students not picked up by 3:15 PM are taken to After Care.  Our Before & After School Program is available between 7:00 - 8:00 AM and 2:50-6:00 PM.

Our family wants to take a vacation but it falls outside of the scheduled breaks. What should we do?

Is there a dress code and uniform?

Yes, we use a standardized dress code for our K-8 program.  Please see the dress code in the Student Handbook for details.

Are there any before our after school programs?

Our Before & After School Program is available between 7:00 AM-8:00 AM and 2:50 PM - 6:00 PM.

What are the traditional classes taught at St. Joseph the Worker?

For our elementary school students, we teach the basic subjects: religion, reading, math, science, social studies, language arts and writing. In these grades, students learn from one teacher in one classroom for most of the day.  For our middle school students, we teach religion, science, history, language arts, literature, and mathematics.  Middle School students learn from specialized teachers in each teacher's classroom.

What special classes are taught?

We have music, art, physical education, library, Spanish, and Technology for both elementary and middle school students.

Are there parent/teacher conferences?

Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled twice a year for Early Childhood and once a year for K-8.  However, if you have a question about your child's progress, please contact the teacher.

Do students participate in standardized testing?

St. Joseph the Worker students in grades 2 -8 take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills® each spring and the COGAT in grades 3, 5, and 7.  The ITBS is a norm-referenced test, which is a nationally recognized standardized test.

What is the homework policy?

We believe that students do need some independent practice.  Rough guidelines: students should do approximately 15 minutes per grade per night, up to an hour.  Our academics are rigorous, so homework length varies depending on the student.



How often will my child have religion class?

Our students have religion class every day.

Do I have to attend church at St. Joseph the Worker Church to enroll?

No, our families attend churches other than St. Joseph the Worker Church.

Does my family have to be Catholic to attend the school?

Families of all faiths are welcome to attend our school.
